I am writing to encourage you to take strong action in order to insure that the basic human rights are assured for the Romanian-speaking population in the Republic of Moldova.

You probably have been already informed by your staff about the recent protests against the contested communist "win" in the general elections and the illegal and abusive measures taken by the Moldovan authorities against its Romanian-speaking citizens as a result of these protests. It is very important that the United States acts immediately to shows its strong support for democracy and transparent elections in Moldova and other countries that are still under the perceived Russian "sphere of influence".

The United States can not ignore human rights abuses like unlawful arrests, lack of due process, questionable elections, and retaliatory measures against Romanian-speaking citizens in the Republic of Moldova.

Amnesty International has in numerous cases issued reports of human rights abuses carried by the authorities in the Republic of Moldova and now is the right time for the international community to send an unequivocal message to the people of Moldova: The world supports you!
